Anyone using Arrow Dynamics Traditionals or Tradtional Lites with their Dalaa or DAS? I have built up 6 AD Traditionals cut to 30", with the tip footed with a 1" brass sleave and a 125 grain field point to match my Magnus stingers. Arrow weight is around 520 grains with around 15% FOC. Arrows fly ok but shooting paper indicates the spine is a little stiff. These arrows are 11.5 grains per inch, three fletch 4" shield cut. And I am shooting off the shelf with a glove.

I have a dozen of the Trad Lites and would like to cut them to 29.5". At 9.5 grains per inch this would give me 280 grains. With a 125 grain tip I would get to 405 grains or approximately 6.5 grain per pound of draw weight. (not including nock, fletching or insert). My Dalaa is shooting around 62#'s at my 29" draw and recommends a minimum of 6 grains per #. I am wondering if the trad lights will be spined well for this setup. I really want the flat trajectory and higher velocity (v term is squared with KE). Would like to use this setup for deer and elk hunting. Any thoughts, recommendations or advice would be appreciated before I start chopping arrows.

I'm playing with the AD Orange shafts at 8 grains per inch, cut to 29 3/8" with 145 grains up front and shooting a GM with a cavilier rest, getting great arrow flight, total arrow weight 437 grains. The Trad lites were stiffer at 29 3/8", and I had to add more front weight then I wanted, so I went to the Orange shafts.
I shot my NM deer with an AD, and loved the penetration at 32 yards. I should of shot through him, but I broke the offside front leg. Really a good, tough shaft. Good arrow flight, and good speed out of my GM.

Crowdog,

Thank you for your advice. I'm fletching up a half dozen of the trad lites this morning and am heading to the range this afternoon. I just went for it on the heavier traditionals, cut and built them the way i wanted and they turned out stiff (the follies of a novice archer). Do you know if there is an aluminum arrow insert that will work with this arrow? Also, what weight are you pulling with your bow.

Thanks again for your response.

I shoot those Orange shafts out of my Warf and love 'em...by far the easiest arrow to tune I've shot...

A little tip, though, their factory nocks aren't the best, but Rob Taylor mills the Easton G nock inserts so they fit...with the G nocks (this was with the Trads; think it would work with the Oranges) they are one sweet arrow.

For longbow shooters, they work over a much wider range of weights than non-tapered arrows.

Atlantis,

Thanks for the heads up. I'm using the ACC 28 unibushings with the G nocks in the AD's. Those things are smooth off the string. It's been really cold up in northern Oregon the last week. I've had the factory AD nocks popping off crazy. Seems like the design is weak to begin with, and with the cold it makes them that much more brittle. I sure like the AD design and have read every thread here and on TG about them. The AD website shows a wide range of applicable draw weights (50-70 lbs) for the Trad and Trad Lite shafts, just trying to short circuit the tuning by getting others experiences. I appreciate the feedback.

I to use the Easton unbushings. The only way to get good nocks. I'm shooting my ADs out of a 62# GM, and trying to work on some for my Thunderhorn. I don't like a lot of tip weight, so right now, I'm experimenting. Trying to have some brass inserts made for me at a machine shop, so we'll see.
I actually started shooting the ADs cause they handle my stone points better. Getting really good arrow flight, and like I said, they hit with authority. A good, all around shaft.

Stone points on the AD's!!!!! Crowdog you are the man! I sure would like to see how your attaching those.

I haven't tried it but I hear the brass inserts for the Grizzly Stix will work in the AD's. I'm trimming 223 brass for tip footings on the trad lites. Not adding much mass but a firm believer that it makes a bullet proof carbon arrow (no pun intended)

I actually made some glue in insetrs last year, and killed a small muley buck with them. Not satisfied, this year I made some glue in inserts. Now I can just unscrew the stone points and screw in my Phantoms. Not a lot of trad shooters like seeing those. As soon as I can figure out how to post pictures, I'll get some up.
I think that the ADs a great shaft, something to play with. I know lots of guys shooting them out of compounds with great results. I shot them bout six years ago, and had lots of problems with nocks. But now with the Acc unibushings, that problem is solved. You'd think that the guys from AD would make a better nock.
