Opinion on Bow Choice
Aloha All,
I am preparing for a goat hunt and just wanted to get opinions on which bow I should use: 45#52" 1972 Kodiak Magnum or 55# 58" Centaur Longbow. I feel equally proficient with both out to my max shot distance of 20 yards. The difference in draw weight is negligible for me as both are very comfortable to draw and hold. Both are very light and quiet. I will be hunting spot and stalk with a lot of crawling and shooting from my knees. So for me the decision is shorter more compact bow or more hitting power? I know there is no wrong answer but what would you grab?

Re: Opinion on Bow Choice
Personally I would take both. What happens if you drop a bow down the mountain. The goats I saw on the Islands off CA. weren’t that big. The lesser weight should do the job. In fact you may find yourself in a “full draw” situation and need to hold for a better shot placement. The lighter weight would help. Another thing to consider is how fatigued will you get climbing up the mountains.

Re: Opinion on Bow Choice
All things being equal, I'd chose smaller and more compact.

I agree with taking both to have a backup but depending on your setup that would require 2sets of arrows unless you can use the same ones on both bows with good results. The higher poundage with a heavy arrow would be my preference.

Re: Opinion on Bow Choice
I shot my goat with a 66 inch longbow. Longer is always more accurate - string angle.
Plus it's always easier to shoot longer than stalk closer.

....Both of those are nice bows to chose from...
....If you were forced to give one of them away...... which one would you be left holding?........ take that one....

Re: Opinion on Bow Choice
thank you all for the input and the warm welcome!
Gnome- to answer your question: the centaur is a better bow in every objective measurement... but if I could only keep one it would be the Bear. What can I say? the heart wants what it wants.
