Worst, or 2nd worst tasting deer I've had.
Cook it and the kitchen smells like he's running behind ya.
Pretty disappointed.
Had a good neck on him, was stinky and chasing a doe.
Boom and he dropped, never twitched.
Cold morning, opened him up and drug out.
Have eaten others of that size, in rut, that were fine.
Dunno why he such a stinker.

Pretty bummed.

Just motivates me to zip a doe in early bow and then gun hunt for a rack.
Can take a stinky buck in for summer sausage and donate the rest.

Kinda wanted to have good meat and a rack, leave the does alone.
Guess not.

Oh well.

I did take the Contender and saw nothing to put on my antlerless tag.
Too small.

Ended up selling my Contender after season. Love/hate kinda deal with them.
Had three at one time. Now down to zero.
Don't mind in handgun, but if rifle I prefer a falling block to break open.

I might be done handgun hunting deer. Really don't have the spot to mess around with it. Could pop a 150"..........if one shows (buddy did). Think rifle allows me to capitalize on variety of situations. If I see it I got it.

The old 35 rem 760 w 4x is a classic rig.
Doesn't kick bad, hammers deer.
Under 150 yards I think it ideal.
Handy rig too.
This one from '63 and has a lot of handling marks.
Not afraid to add more.
Being a 4x I zero it at 75 yards. Think it's 1" high at that D.
I use a Sharpie marker dot on paper and its just big enough w reg duplex to use at 75.

Had a 4x on a #1 RSI .243 and checked zero at 75 yds, and saw no hits. Got mad and walked down, three in a cloverleaf, center of dot.

35 rem you can see the holes a little better.
