Re: How do you wear a longbow across your back?
The huntingseeker.com linen bowstrings of the time were far too valuable to be used as a carrying device.

Re: How do you wear a longbow across your back?
It makes sense that an unstrung bow would be carried on the back by a soldier who is marching everywhere. I'm sure they would have tied the bows to their pack, along with arrows, quiver, gear and possibles.
Bows probably werent strung until they were ready to shoot, then carried in the hand.

Well being that most historic bows would tend to take a set. Soldiers probably wouldnt carry them on their back unless they anticipating to use them imminently.
And yes this thread is ridiculously old.

but it's valid and current to the ones thinking on it & discussing it.
I find the differing views on how they might have carried bows on foot & on horseback a good read.

An oldy but a goodie for sure. I always find the history of archery and the way people did things back in the days of yore to be interesting. I could talk old time archery and history all day...tell me about the newest risers and my eyes glaze over pretty quick.
