It's usually my bad arrows that end up in the wood...and make we want to stop for the day.

nice shot.
so, in analysis, how the arrow got there......how did you approach the shot, mentally, do you shoot 3-under and use the tip of the arrow & gap, or shoot instinctively looking at the roughly 16" round hollowed-out section?
40 yards is a bit far (for me) to pick out a really small aiming point.
NICE SHOOTING....however you shoot, I am only curious......stumping is good practice.......I have a strip of timber bordering my large yard, along the railroad tracks, lot of junk trees & some are down......perfect.

If I would commit to a one-shot at a target like the OP, I would have to do it instinctively, and from an unknown distance. I did it a few times already. There were misses and there were good shots. But instead of quitting, the good shots always make me want to shoot more. 🙂

Nice shooting, Addapost! I hope you were able to salvage your arrow without any damage. Otherwise, "stumping" can get kind of expensive.

Back in the day, stumping helped me to become very proficient at straightening (and more often destroying) aluminum arrows. My archery club requires members to shoot only at designated targets, either paper or 3d, so hitting stumps now means that I messed up!

Good job. I always have to shoot another, just to make sure it wasn't luck lol.

Thanks for the replies. So what was going on there was, like I said, I have been having more fun shooting stumps lately than paper, or bags, or even 3-D. Most of what I have been doing is roaming around the woods with a couple buddies just shooting dead, rotten stumps. That one happens to be a rotten cut log that I have in my back yard just to plink at. I took the 40 yard shot only because I was unloading my archery stuff from the back of my truck and I looked up and saw the stump. It just happened to be 40 yards I wasnít necessarily going for that distance, it just worked out that way.

I did use a laser range finder to get that number before I shot so I knew the distance. I shoot with a fixed crawl set at a point-on of about 28-29 yards. That arrow has a Zwicky Judo point which is my main point now for stumping. For that shot I pointed the tip at a spot about a foot or so above the center of the target log. It hit almost exactly where I wanted it to go so obviously my mechanics and release worked out that time. It doesnít always. In fact, I often do something that makes the arrow hit a little (or more) left of where I want. I THINK itís a combination of my finger hook and release so Iíve been working really hard on both of those. Iíve been getting better and more consistent, it worked out that time.

Love this game.
