Default Speed test, Border hex vs Centaur?

Hi all!

This is just my curiosity talking.
Its seems that the hex limbs are as fast as a recurve goes right now, for a longbow (1 or 2pc) that seems to be Centaur (up for debate im sure...but not in this thread).

Would be fun to see the diffrence with the 2 being pit against eachother at or around the same gpp.
This is not a thread about speed being important or not, just curios how big the difference is between 2 top performers from different classes.

So if anyone happens to be a lucky owner of both please put them thru the chrono!

It's pretty hard to do an exact comparisons in a back yard test but you can get a "rough" idea if you keep the draw lengths the same and the gpp the same. Blacky Schwarz tested the Centaur Carbon Elite and got 195fps at exactly 9gpp at exactly 28".

Not sure if the Border has been tested in exactly the same way but from what I've seen posted by a member here, they appear to be "roughly" the same.

They are both among the top performing traditional bows.

I do too. I trust Blacky exclusively to be objective. One might say he is "TOPHAT"

To bad someone didnt pick up the torch after him, would be great to have a growing libary of bows tested under the same conditions.

It feels like people still are refering to blackys reports on a daily basis, but
The URL im visiting hade a last update 2014 and up to that point had 9 trad recurves and 8 longbows reviewd, it feels like im visiting the wrong homepage when people talk about his reports.

There goes another civil conversation. Jinkster said he draws longer than 28" now also. That's why I said roughly the same and it's pretty hard to make exact comparisons in back yard testing. Can't you even be happy when someone pays Border a compliment or must you find a fight in everything? I also said...

Bowmania is an unknown quantity at this point

To me, it would only be of worth with ILF limbs. With CH's of length would always beat the short longbow in accuracy.

Not what i was after, im sure a long CH would beat the Centaur in both
Accuracy and speed. My question was not about ILF, if i remember correctly JP and Ray has done such a test couple of years ago.

I have seen many different reports about both bows, just not by the same tester/archer.

I might clarify that its not the actual topspeed im after, wich offcourse will vary depending on all sorts of things ( DL, realese, hootetshooter, etc) but the diffrence between them when the same person shoots the same gpp. If the chrono that person uses is off high or low it doesent mather. The diffrence will be the same.

Not BEING FOR OR AGAINST ANY OF THE BRANDS whether it is Border, Dryad or Morrison but these bowyers all make big curved limbs now or RC's. Have you been to Morrisons and checked out his new RC's? Now no offense to anybody, just discussion, please.

Hopefully Blacky will start his reports again also and do it in video format

As for chronoing

Yes and yes

I have been asked to have Ray come up and to do a Centaur video

He has at least 4 of them

I will be happy to run some like bows on the chrono

That would be great Joe! And sure hope Blacky starts with his reports again, i can imagine he would have a great fresh start just by going through your collection!

Don't know how much my unscientific tests count for, but my Covert Hunter easily bests my Centaur Triple Carbon by a good dozen or so FPS shooting similar GPP. I believe the Hex7.5 limbs are the fastest recurve limbs and Centaurs are among the fastest longbow limbs available, but the two are not comparable. Just my 2 cents.
