    Hi Larry.
I had you sign a takedown riser and refinish it several years ago and have not been able to find limbs for it. It is the older recessed pocket design and the newer limbs don't fit. I've been hounding the net all these years to find an old takedown just for the limbs with no luck. Any ideas?

    Dear Larry,

As I have not heard back from Martin Archery, I wonder if I could impose upon you for any information you may have on a Damon Howatt Hi-Speed bow I recently acquired. I'm new to recurves but I find this bow to a great shooter-accurate and fast (and great looking, to my eye) to boot.

Almost forgot - the serial number is HSA 6238.

Also, it's currently braced at about 8 3/8". Do you think that is too high? If I were to replace the string, do you have anyone you could recommend?

    Many thanks, Larry.

I was wanting to find out some info on a recurve my Grandfather gave me. It's a Howatt HI-SPEED NE PLUS ULTRA serial number HW54970 #47 58" the back veneer is green with what appears to paint brush lines running the length of the veneer vertically. Just curious as to the production year and if I should keep shooting it or hang it in my trophy room.

Hi, Larry, still beating your head against that wall, sir? I've had 'Free range' on my ignore list about four times now, not sure why I take him off ;-) Glutton for punishment, I guess.

Sam has been slinging that broad brush since Obama won re-election, smearing everything and everyone in sight. I appreciate his writings on some technical matters, but politically those two ain't worth responding to. Anyway, keep posting, please, your sources are a lot more varied than the far-right blogs they favor.

Mr Hatfield I was told to contact you. I just picked up a newer Mamba recurve. It's 50lb though I made a mistake on my post and said 45lb. It's got some scratches on the upper limb but looks really good. I know nothing about it. I was at an auction and it needed a good home. I need a string for it and was thinking S&D. Any thoughts ? Thanks Bill

Mr. Hatfield, I'm trying to send you a PM, but I don't think it is working. Please e-mail me, as I have a question or two for you.

if you like the bow you found i would not change! the 66" is a bit faster, but not enough to notice in most cases. in flight it is a matter of inches and feet sometimes that is not critical in 3d and hunting.

I just picked up a 64" Viper. Do you think it is worth trying to find a 66" one or are the differences between them negligible when drawn back. I pull 30". Its a fast bow. I feel it is as fast or faster than my same poundage Bear Super Kodiak and feels smoother all the way around.

the 66" length bamboo viper is what i have been using for the past several years to hunt, 3-d shoots and flight comprtitions. it currently holds the 50# and 35# american longbow flight records as well as the 50# broadhead flight record.
i believe it's the best longbow i have ever shot. it pulls the same #/inch from the moment you move the string to the end of your draw, has no recoil, and is extremely stable. i really can not find a negative thing to say about them.
by the way, the 50# flight record was shot while competing head to head with michael willrich, border bows shooter. i was way past his 50# effort and he shot 11 yards past me with his 70 # border.

Hello Mr Hatfield, I have been looking up information on Martins Bamboo Viper and do not see a lot of comparable info but your name keeps popping up. What is your opinion on this bow and how it may compare to traditional D shaped longbows, its build quality, shootability etc?

go to the bottom of the reply panel and click "manage attachments" a list of your stuff will appear. if your pictures are in a picture file you just click and choose the picture to send. you can not send big pictures. you need to reduce size of them before selecting.
you can select several at a time if they are reduced.

    Howdy Larry,

I was perusing your public stats and it showed steer roping as an interest. Way cool! Are you referring to tripping or team roping?

I have found a bow for sale. On it, in a few places are writing that appears as a cursive script style in black ink says Howatt, Custom Bushmaster, 50# @ 28", MOA 64", ML 18, 3918. The mid-section is a reddish colored wood, it looks nice, but I have no way to date or know a fair price. Would you be willing to help with some direction and/or information? Thanks in advance, Mick
