The  DAS Kinetic Hunter
FAQ’s

What is the DAS Kinetic Hunter?

The DAS hunter is an ultra high strength alloy riser bow that utilizes FITA competition limbs to produce a state of the art hunting bow.  The DAS is built without compromise to be the finest hunting weapon of its type in the world.  One of the exceptional features of this bow is that it comes tuned so that the archer is drawing the bow into the range where the limbs are most efficient.  This allows even short draw archers to maximize the potential of the bow.

How is the DAS different from other metal bows?

The DAS was designed from the ground up to utilize the unique characteristics of FITA limbs to their fullest.  Unlike most metal bows, the DAS does not use the tillering bolts to adjust draw weight.  The tillering bolts are used instead to adjust draw length.  Extensive limb cycle mapping has revealed that a narrow region within the limb cycle exists where the limbs exhibit the highest efficiency.  The tillering bolts are used to adjust the limb so that this region is targeted for the archer’s draw length.  Once that region has been hit, the draw weight of the limbs is then selected to give the proper finished draw weight.  Minor adjustments to tiller and draw weight can be made within this range to fine tune the bow.  The ability of this bow to be fitted to a particular limb cycle map means that people who typically have trouble finding a bow that performs well, will find it in this bow.

What are the Materials used?

The material used in the riser is FORTAL-HR.  This is an aerospace alloy with the weight of aluminum but the strength and hardness of 1025 carbon steel.  It is twice the strength of 6061-T6 “aircraft” alloy!  FORTAL-HR has excellent machining qualities and does not use silicon in the alloy, which is known to cause embrittlement.   The cost and expense of FORTAL-HR generally limits its use to multi-million dollar high performance aircraft and spacecraft.  This is the only bow in the world built from such high-grade materials.  All hardware used in this bow will be the finest high strength aluminum alloy, stainless steel, bronze and brass.

What are the Design Features?

These risers are 17” long.  They are designed around early Hoyt geometry. They are full center shot adjustable.  The limbs are adjustable for weight, tiller, and alignment just like a high dollar FITA competition riser.  The riser is designed for use exclusively with FITA limbs.  A custom bushing replaces the ILF dovetail and gives the bow a very solid and quiet feel.  It also retains the limbs when the bow is unstrung.  Limbs can be removed and replaced without disturbing any of the adjustments.  No tools are required to remove the limbs.  Limb footings are lined with high strength neoprene and urethane anti-vibration material. The risers are CAD designed and CNC machined for consistently tight tolerances.  All finish work and fitting is done by hand.  Finished bow lengths are generally 58, 60, or 62” depending on the limbs chosen.  Limb length requirements vary by draw length.   All accessory mountings are AMO standard.  The riser incorporates an optional tunable balance system that allows perfect balance, and the ability to vary the mass weight of the bow.  I designed the handle to accept standard Hoyt recurve grips so that people can upgrade to customs if they desire.   The final bow mass weight is 2lbs 10ozs with medium limbs.   The mass weight can be increased by adjusting the optional balance / ballast system in the bottom of the riser.  The riser is drilled and tapped for a stabilizer.  A custom front counter-balance is available.  I also have a custom aluminum quiver / sight bracket  that will allow mounting an optional Alpine Archery Soft Loc quiver and a conventional sight if desired.  The DAS offers the ability to shoot elevated rest with a plunger or off the shelf with the removable side plate.  The shelf rest is custom contoured to provide exceptionally low contact and high clearance, and is cut to allow the arrow to ride very near centershot.

How is it Finished?

The risers are finished with abrasive blasting and hardcoat anodize.  This is like the finish in Calphalon cookware.  Nothing short of tool steel can scratch this finish.  The color of the riser is mat black.  Optional camouflaging is offered on the limbs.

What kind of Performance can I expect?

DAS Bows produce speeds comparable to or better than any custom bow on the market.   They are very quiet with no hand shock or vibration.  The FITA limbs give the smoothest draw of any hunting bow with no stacking.  DAS bows are impervious to moisture.  They can withstand any environmental temperature that might be encountered.   One of the truly great aspects of this bow is the custom tuning that I offer.  No matter what your draw length or weight, I can dial in a bow to shoot specifically for you.  No guess work, no “hope for the best” that is so common with wood custom bows.

What kind of arrows should I use?

Carbon Arrows are a good choice to get the most from the DAS Kinetic Hunter.  Unlike most bows, the DAS can make use of arrows down to 6gr/lb without damage or excessive noise!  This allows you to get sizzling speed for target or smaller game hunting such as turkey without excessive draw weight.  The DAS will also handle heavy hunting arrows as well.

What are the Terms of sale?

DAS Kinetics are only available as complete bows.   If you already have limbs that are the right length and weight for your application,  Orders must be accompanied by full payment in the form of Postal Money Order (from the Post office) only.  If for some reason that presents a problem, we can talk about it.  Wait time will vary, so contact me for an estimate.  If the order cannot be filled in 3 months, the customer has the option of continuing to wait or get a refund.  If an order is cancelled by the customer after production has begun, the money will be refunded when that bow is sold to another customer.  I have to do this because the cost of building these bows is high.

What about used limb and special purchase packages?

Occassionaly I have used limbs or new limbs that are the result of special purchases that can be built into bows.  These packages represent exceptional value.  Email me for information concerning availability.

What is the Warranty?

Every  bow comes with a 15 day money back guarantee.  I don’t care what the reason.  If you aren’t thrilled by it, send it back in new condition and I’ll refund all your money and pay the return postage.  Damaged equipment will be adjusted accordingly for no more than cost.  The limbs are warranted through the manufacturer, and I do not offer any additional warranty on limbs.  In the event of a limb failure that I have supplied, I will assist in obtaining warranty repairs from the manufacturer.  If one of my risers ever fails in any way due to materials or workmanship I’ll repair it, replace it, or give a full refund at my discretion.  These risers are close to indestructible, so only serious abuse will damage them.  Damage due to abuse or accident is not covered, but repairs will be done at minimum cost.
